I was thrilled for the
opportunity to speak with Elvin Bishop. His music has been a part
of my life for so long. As a result, I was a bit nervous. He was
very gracious though, and spent almost 30 minutes talking with me.
Trying to fit 50 years worth of stories into that timeframe was a
daunting task, but I did my best. We talked about his childhood,
his National Merit Scholarship which led him to the University of
Chicago, and his early days in music. He told me about the first
time that he met Paul Butterfield. It was his first day in Chicago!
I asked him about his guitars, and his 1976 hit song "Fooled Around
and Fell in Love". That song is very near and dear to my heart. It
reminds me of growing up in the 70s. You can learn more about Elvin
at his website http://www.elvinbishopmusic.com/.
Enjoy!
