The Punk Meets the Podfather

New Year's Eve. The final day of 2014. This year seemed to move more quickly than most. Even though it flew by, the universe has a way of giving us reminders that time is indeed, passing. My reminder came in just under the wire. I was on my way to the Doctor for an annual check up. I was coming up to a busy intersection and noticed a punk rocker walking by. I don't see many locally, so I took notice. It was just long enough to think "cool, you don't see that every day".

A few minutes later I was in the waiting room with the usual cast of characters. Ten minutes later, who walks in but the punk rocker! Now that I got a closer look at him, he was straight out of Central Casting...Mid 20's, purple spikey hair, Doc Martens up to his knees, studded jean jacket, face tattoos, and a nose ring. He sat acrosss from me. I was impressed with how quickly he made it over here. I thought that he would have surely noticed my purple Doc Martens and Rolling Stones pin on the lapel of my wool coat, so I struck up a conversation.  "You made good time!". He looked at me, puzzled.  "I saw you across the bridge before, and you made good time.  I used to walk a lot myself". He mumbled something, put his ear buds in, and never looked up from his iPhone.  Kids today. Hope I die before I get old, indeed.

Episode 242 - David Quaife

My guest today is David Quaife. He is the co-founding Executive Director of The Pete Quaife Foundation. As many long time fans know, his brother Pete was a founding member and bass player for The Kinks. He sadly passed away in 2010. David is continuing his legacy with the work he is doing with the foundation. David told me about how he and Penny Pound got started with it, and the amazing musicians that contribute tracks and performances to benefit them. We also talked about his life, and the early days of The Kinks as seen through his then teenage eyes. It sounds like those were great times! Three Kinks cover songs from "Pass it On Vol 1" are featured with this episode. Learn more at www.petequaifefoundation.com. Please consider doing what you can to help them out. If you reach out to David, please let him know that you heard him here. Enjoy!

Episode 241 - Blak Beast Producshunz

BBP is a hip hop crew based out of Pittsburgh, PA. I recently met with founder Chaoz Da General and VinnyBlaq. Their brand new single "Like a Gentleman" is featured with this episode. We had a great conversation about how BBP formed, their musical influences, and the state of hip hop music today. They are signed to the Rize Records label, and we talked about our shared respect for Omar Sistrunk. I have been fortunate to interview many acts associated with Rize, and I was thrilled for the chance to add BBP to that list. Learn more at http://rize-records.com/b-b-p-producshunz/,  and follow them on Twitter(www.twitter.com/blakbeast412). Episode 239 - LAW

L*A*W is back! There is so much going on in this country with recent Grand Jury decisions, police behavior, and the downstream effects of racism. L*A*W is not shy about sharing his views on social media, but he chose not to address these topics any further on Facebook and Twitter after his initial posts. He said that he would rather talk through them on my show. I am honored to be a part of this discussion with him. Talking about these things and being educated about the past is the only way things will change. Hopefully our discussion sparks some new thoughts with you. Two live tracks are featured here as well. Follow L*A*W on Twitter at www.twitter.com/planet12law. If you reach out to L*A*W, please let him know that you enjoy his appearances on The Artist Connection Podcast!

Episode 238 - Andy Gunn

I recently called over to Scotland to speak with musician Andy Gunn. An article about him by Donald Fraser in The Highland Times pointed me in his direction (http://www.thehighlandtimes.com/news/2014/11/20/the-andy-gunn-story/). Andy has overcome many challenges in his life. His story is inspirational on so many levels. We had a great conversation about his life, music, and his new album "Miracle of Healing". I love this record! Two tracks are featured with this episode. I highly encourage you to pick up a copy of your own and support this talented artist. We also talked about our shared respect of the blues and his travels to different parts of the US. I hope he returns here so I can catch one of his shows. Learn more at www.andygunn.net. If you contact Andy, please let him know that you heard him on the show. Enjoy!
